The Section 1A, 2A and 3A girls track and field meets are this week.

Here are 12 southeastern Minnesota athletes who figure to have the biggest impact in those state-qualifying competitions.

SECTION 1-3A

Abigail Tri, John Marshall

Tri is the defending Section 1-3A champion in the 3,200 when she was timed in 10:54.05.

The sophomore has been timed in 10:51.31 this season and is also great in the 1,600 (5:14.06).

The long, sweet-striding Comfere is one of the state’s best in the 400.

She finished fifth at state in the event last year when she was timed in a fantastic 55.90.

Her best this season is 56.61, but expect that to go down in the section meet.

Comfere is also a big player on Century’s excellent 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams.

Mary Amusan, Century

Just a sophomore, Amusan is one of the top throwers in Section 1-3A. She’s heaved the shot put 40-feet-4 1/2 and thrown the discus 116-6.

That 40-4 throw ranks second in the section behind Lakeville North’s Sahara Wilson (41-2 1/4).

Josie Van Brunt, Mayo

Van Brunt is one of the most impressive seventh graders in the state, already a top sprinter.

She’s been timed in 12.67 in the 100 which is the second best time in all of southeastern Minnesota.

SECTION 1-2A

Avery Nelson, Stewartville

Nelson, just an eighth-grader, is fresh off her best time of the year in the 200. She was clocked in a swift 25.88 in her state True Team meet.

That ranks her only behind Tri-City United’s Kaitlyn Hartwig in the section. Nelson is also a top triple jumper (36-5).

Calla Pike, Stewartville

Pike has run a 2:19.75 800, which is the third-best clocking in Section 1-2A. The junior did that in her state True Team meet, so she has momentum.

Alexis Urbick, Winona

The senior has the best time in Section 1-2A in the 300 hurdles, 45.18. She is third in the 100 hurdles (15.45).

Audrey Shindelar, Stewartville

One of the top all-around athletes in the state, Shindelar’s best track and field events are the high jump and the 400.

The junior and future South Dakota State University basketball player has gone 5-2 in the high jump.

SECTION 1-1A

Chantle Reiland, GMLOKS

The senior has turned in a brilliant season. Her 12.17 time this season in the 100 ranks as the third best in state Class 1A and her 25.52 is third. Two years ago, Reiland was the state champion in the 100.

Autumn Rakosnik, LFCMC

Rakosnik is the most balanced long-distance runner in Section 1-1A.

Her 5:14.87 1,600 time is the best in the section, her 11:22.26 in the 3,200 ranks third and her 2:26.01 in the 800 is second. And she’s just a freshman.

Rushford-Peterson/Houston’s Aubryana Boldt has cleared 18-feet-10 this season in the long jump.

Boldt, a junior, is one of the top track and field athletes in the state.

Boldt reached the state meet in three events last year — the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Look for her to make it in all three again.

Her 15.26 in the 100 hurdles is second in the section, while her 18-feet-10 distance in the long jump and 37-8 1/2 in the triple jump both rank first.

Elena Hartung, Pine Island

Hartung is Section 1-1A’s best in the 100 hurdles (15.04) and also its best in the 300 hurdles (45.36).

The all-around athletic star finished second at state last year in the 300s and is her school’s best all-time hurdler.
