LA Lakers legend and former executive Magic Johnson has paid tribute to one of the great players in the NBA.

After leaving his post as LA Lakers president, Magic Johnson can no longer influence the team’s personnel decisions.

That does not stop him wish-casting, and he has made it public that his dream signing for the team would be Kevin Durant.

Magic Johnson is a brand in his own right as one of the greatest basketball players of his generation, with his jersey retired by the Lakers.

Johnson even conducts his own award ceremony to recognize the extra effort of NBA stars with their offcourt and charity work.

He has named the 2025 winner as Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant, who won two NBA titles during his time with the Golden State Warriors.

Johnson made the announcement on X, adding in a little quip about wishing that Durant played on the Lakers.

He posted: “Congratulations to the 2-time Magic Johnson Award winner Kevin Durant.

I’m so excited Kevin Durant won this award because is he always so gracious to the media and fans, I love his game, who he is as a man, and all the great community work that he’s doing in the DMV area with the youth.

Kevin Durant has uncertain future

Kevin Durant has a very uncertain future with the Phoenix Suns after the franchise made an attempt to trade him away in February.

There was speculation he could rejoin the Warriors, before Durant shut it down and later explained he did not want to leave midseason.

Kevin Durant is still making a big impact in the league at the age of 36. He averaged 26.6 points per game this past season, and his shot map illustrates how he had an impact from almost every key area.

He shot a highly efficient 52.7 percent and 43 percent from three, with five double-doubles on the season.

Is there a possibility this could be the Lakers? This is not so likely, and in any case, Magic Johnson will have no say in the matter, despite his wishes.
