Dallas Cowboys’ new coach led Blue Valley High to its first Kansas football state title.

Brian Schottenheimer, the son of former Kansas City Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer and former standout quarterback at Blue Valley High, is the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the Cowboys were hiring Schottenheimer, 51, to replace Mike McCarthy.
Schottenheimer had served as the Cowboys’ non-play-calling offensive coordinator for the previous two years.
The Cowboys made the official announcement Friday evening.
Dallas new head coach enrolled at Blue Valley High School when his dad, Marty Schottenheimer, was hired as the Chiefs’ head coach for the 1989 season.

In 1991, Brian Schottenheimer led the Tigers to the Kansas Class 5A championship, the program’s first state title.
Schottenheimer then spent his freshman season at Kansas before transferring to Florida to play for Gators coach Steve Spurrier.
Schottenheimer was the backup QB to Danny Wuerffel on the Gators’ 1996 national championship team.
He started his NFL coaching career the next season, and in 1998 he was a member of the Chiefs’ coaching staff. He joined the Cowboys’ staff in 2022.
Marty Schottenheimer went 101-58-1 with seven playoff seasons and three AFC West titles in 10 seasons as the Chiefs’ head coach. He died in 2021.
