World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan

World record holder Tobi Amusan continued her preparations for the forthcoming World Athletics Championships in style as she eased to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles event at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czechia, on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 28-year-old, who came into the event off the back an impressive outing at the Paris Diamond League last weekend, showed why she was deemed the favourite by cruising to an easy victory as she crossed line in first place in a time of 12.45s, ahead of Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster who came second in a season’s best time of 12.74s while Sarah Lavin of Ireland came third having set a season’s best time of 12.76s.

It was Amusan’s second win in the hurdles this season.

She won the Rabat Diamond League in May, setting a new meet record of 12.45 seconds.

She also clocked a season’s best time of 12.24s to finish second at the Paris Diamond League last Friday.

Elsewhere, Bahrain quarter-miler Salwa Eid Naser powered to a meet record of 49.15s to win the women’s 400m at the Ostrava Golden Spike ahead of American Lynna Irby-Jackson who finished second in 49.82s, while Dutchwoman Femke Bol came third in 49.98s.

He defeated Puerto Rico’s Reynier Mena who ran 20.19s in second place and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake of Great Britain who ended up in third with a time of 20.60s.

World record holder in the men’s pole vault Mondo Duplantis set a new meet record leap of 6.13m to win the event with ease.

Emmanouil Karalis of Greece was second with a leap of 5.92m, while Australia’s Kurtis Marschall placed third after jumping 5.82m.

One of the shocks of the evening came in the men’s 110m hurdles, which saw Dylan Beard beat his fellow countryman Grant Holloway in a photo-finish time of 13.13s to first position, while Austria’s Enzo Diessl settled for third place in a time of 13.25s.

The women’s 100m event was won by Liberia’s Thelma Davies, who clocked a surprise personal best and a national record time of 10.91s.

Ivory Coast veteran sprinter Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith came second in a time of 10.92s, while New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs set a new national record of 10.94s to place third.

The event, which is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold calendar, took place at the Mestský Stadion in the Czech Republic and featured a stellar lineup of Olympic, World and Continental medalists.
