Chelsea had an excellent first game in pre-season, and got off to the perfect start in their final fixture against AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca named a starting side who could easily be selected for their opening Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

Cole Palmer was one of only four players who maintained their starting spot, and he was really enjoying things in the first half against Milan.

The England international went close with two free kicks after the Blues had stormed into a 2-0 lead early on, with Joao Pedro finding the net again.

Cole Palmer kept giving Jamie Gittens advice during Chelsea vs AC Milan

Palmer was part of an attack which flowed brilliantly against both 11 and 10 men, with Jamie Gittens also being named in the starting side.

The winger was making his first start at Stamford Bridge since his move from Borussia Dortmund, and built on his very bright debut with a strong outing again.

For any new signing, getting to grips with the new surroundings was always going to be difficult, however the responsibility falls with those who have been at the club a lot longer to get that message across.

This seems to be the role that Palmer has picked up in the side, and journalist Nizaar Kinsella noticed the former Manchester City man frequently giving the new man instructions in the first half.

He said: “Interesting watching this in the stadium.

You can see Palmer is talking a lot to Gittens about his positioning.”

Gittens facing competition to start Premier League opener

In just two pre-season games, plenty of Chelsea attackers have already put their case forward to start in West London in a week’s time.

Pedro Neto provided a first half assist for Pedro, while the win over Bayer Leverkusen saw Estevao Willian show the world he was ready to make the step up in Europe.

There could also be more competition to come. Chelsea have been strongly linked with the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, who is very much out of Ruben Amorim’s plans.
