FLINT, MI – Nathan Martin, a 35-year-old professional runner and coach from Jackson, was the first person to cross the finish line at the HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races 10-mile run.

Martin previously won the Crim 10-mile race in 2023, he said. Martin won a $3,000 reward for placing first in the men’s open.

He joked he still needs to catch his breath before thinking about what to do with the prize money.

Competing in the elite class of runners, Martin finished the race in 47 minutes and one second in downtown Flint on Aug. 23.

Martin has run the race five or six times before and admires the challenging hills in the second half of the race.

“The first three to five miles felt amazing,” Martin said. “The gameplan was to go for a PR – I was a little bit off once the hills started catching up to me, but I battled to stay on pace.”

The world’s best athletes will have one more chance to pick up points and qualify for next week’s Wanda Diamond League Final when they line up at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels this Friday.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden go head to head in the women’s 100m, while the likes of Yared Nuguse, Mykolas Alekna and Gianna Woodruff are also hoping to book their ticket to Zurich.

The action begins at 18:30 local time (GMT/UTC+2) with the men’s high jump and the main programme and two-hour broadcast starts at 20:00 local time with the women’s 400m hurdles.
