Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has confirmed his departure from Rangers, leaving an emotional farewell message to fans after his Ibrox journey came to an end.

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has confirmed his departure from Scottish giants Rangers, sharing a emotional farewell message with fans after his Ibrox journey came to an end.

Dessers, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2023, leaves the club after more than two seasons, during which he made over 100 appearances and scored an impressive 52 goals.

His time at Rangers divided opinions but was marked by memorable achievements, including winning the Scottish League Cup and finishing as the SPFL Premiership top scorer, as well as claiming the Sam English Bowl.

Rangers Football Club officially confirmed Dessers’ move to Greek side Panathinaikos for an undisclosed fee through a brief statement on their website.

The club expressed gratitude for his contributions, saying, “Everyone at the club thanks Cyriel for his contribution during his time in Glasgow, and we wish him well for the future.”

Following the transfer, Dessers took to social media to address Rangers supporters directly.

Dessers is off to Greece.

“It was an absolute honour to wear the number 9 at Rangers, something that will fill me with pride for the rest of my life.

I want to wish everybody at Rangers all the best, take good care of the club, you guys are so important,” he wrote.

The 30-year-old forward’s focus has now shifted to his international duties with Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup matches.

Dessers is set to play a vital role for the Super Eagles as they aim to revive their fading 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes with crucial fixtures against Rwanda this weekend and South Africa next week.
