Christopher Morales Williams and Savannah Sutherland joined Leduc in delivering world-championship-qualifying performances on Sunday evening in Edmonton

It’s crazy to think that just a year ago, Gatineau, Que.’s Audrey Leduc was only setting her first national record–clocking 10.96 seconds to break Angela Bailey‘s 36-year-old 100m mark of 10.98 seconds, set in 1987.

Fast forward to Sunday evening in Edmonton, where Leduc improved on that mark for the third time, crossing the line in the prelims at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational in 10.94 seconds.

Leduc’s run shaved 0.01 seconds off her previous personal best of 10.95 (set at the Paris Olympics last August) and earned her the world championships qualifying standard of 11.07 for September in Tokyo.

Leduc defended her meet title an hour later, running 11.06–her second-fastest time of the season, which also dipped under the world standard.

The performance comes just a few weeks after Ajax, Ont., sprinter Sadé McCreath matched Leduc’s previous record of 10.95 seconds in a massive personal best, also landing a world-championship-qualifying mark.

Morales Williams and Sutherland hit 400m world standards

In the 400m event, 20-year-old Christopher Morales Williams of Vaughan, Ont., threw down a big season’s best of 44.85, hitting the world standard on the dot.

The performance marked the first time this season that the Olympic sprinter, who owns the Canadian record of 44.05, has broken 45 seconds.

On the women’s side, Canadian and NCAA 400m hurdles record holder Savannah Sutherland ditched the hurdles to make an unforgettable professional debut sporting Adidas’ signature triple stripes.

The Borden, Sask., native clocked a blistering 50.62, smashing both her personal best of 51.23 and the world standard of 50.75. The performance also marks the fastest 400m by a Canadian in 2025.
