Barbados for Travellers has Released the Following Statements Regarding Community Developments and Safety Initiatives – July 2025

Barbados for Travellers, in collaboration with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. and local government authorities, has announced several key developments and safety initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall experience for visitors and improving quality of life for residents. These updates come as part of the island’s ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism, community engagement, and public safety.

Community Developments

One of the primary highlights of July’s announcement is the launch of the Barbados Community Experience Program (BCEP). This initiative seeks to deepen cultural exchange by encouraging tourists to participate in locally organized events, heritage tours, and skill-sharing activities. From cooking classes in St. Andrew to calypso workshops in Bridgetown, BCEP promotes a more immersive and respectful tourism experience. Local communities are also receiving funding to upgrade public spaces, build eco-friendly facilities, and create job opportunities in cultural tourism.

The government is also investing in infrastructure upgrades in high-traffic tourist areas such as Holetown and Oistins. These upgrades include improved signage, expanded walkways, and refurbished transportation hubs to better accommodate both locals and visitors. A new beachfront promenade is being constructed in the southern parish of Christ Church, which will feature artisan stalls, shaded seating areas, and solar-powered lighting.

Safety Initiatives

Their responsibilities include assisting tourists, deterring petty crimes, and coordinating with emergency services when needed.

In addition, the Royal Barbados Police Force has launched a Community Watch Partnership, which encourages collaboration between law enforcement and local business owners to monitor activity and report suspicious behavior. Security camera coverage has also been enhanced in public areas, and several beach patrol units are being equipped with new surveillance drones and communication tools to respond more efficiently during emergencies.
