The American is moving on.

Coco Gauff defeated Marie Bouzkova in the third round at the French Open on Saturday evening in straight sets, winning 6-1 7-6(3).

This marks a first-ever victory against Bouzkova, having previously been 0-2 in her career against the Czech player.

Gauff had her way in the first set, cruising to a 6-1 victory, before battling back from behind in the second set, down 5-3, to earn a thrilling 7-6(3) victory.

She has still yet to drop a set at this year’s French Open.

Gauff and Bouzkova’s history together isn’t long, but it didn’t favor the 21-year-old American.

The Czech tennis player defeated Gauff back in 2022 at the Cincinnati Open when she had to retire due to an ankle injury in the second set.

Bouzkova then took her down once again at the Italian Open in 2023 in three sets, winning 4–6, 6–2, 6–2.

Gauff is looking to capture her first title at Roland Garros, but will still have a way to go.

She lost in the final in 2022 to rival Iga Swiatek.

The American is currently the second-ranked player in the world, while Swiatek is fifth.

Speaking after her third-round win, Gauff said: “I served a bit more aggressive in the first set, so I was holding easier.

‘And maybe got a little bit too passive on the serve in the second, and it allowed her to get back into the match.

“Just keeping the aggressive mindset is something that I can do better for the next match.”

However, Gauff’s attention will now shift to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The Russian star is coming off a third-round victory in straight sets over fellow Russian, Veronika Kudermetova.

It will now be Gauff vs Alexandrova with a trip to the quarter-finals on the line.

The 21-year-old sensation is playing some of her best tennis of her career, and she will look to keep it going against Alexandrova on Monday evening.

With the Saturday night win, Gauff is back in the fourth round at Roland Garros for the fifth consecutive year.

She has one Grand Slam victory in her career, at the US Open in 2023.

The young American will be hoping to add another Grand Slam victory to her resume in the next week.

Her third-round success comes after she equalled a stunning 17-year Maria Sharapova record against Tereza Valentova.

Gauff became the youngest player since Sharapova in 2008 to reach the third round in Paris in five consecutive years.

Her 23 main-draw match wins at Roland Garros are the most at any single tournament.
