Coco Gauff began her US Open preparations at the Canadian Open, but came up short in the fourth round.

The world number two had last been seen in action at Wimbledon, when Gauff lost to Dayana Yastremska in the first round.

Returning to the court in Montreal, Gauff took down Danielle Collins in her opening match to set up a third-round tie with Veronika Kudermetova.

Battling back from a set down, Gauff defeated the Russian to qualify for the last 16 of the 2025 Canadian Open.

It was there that her run came to an end, however, as Gauff fell to Victoria Mboko in straight sets, 1-6, 4-6.

Unsuccessful in the singles, the 21-year-old has had a better time of things in the doubles, where she has just accomplished something for the first time in 2025.

Partnering up with her fellow American, McCartney Kessler, Gauff has made her way through to the final of the Canadian Open doubles tournament.

Their win over Barbora Krejcikova and Jelena Ostapenko was no doubt the best of the bunch, as the American duo took down the experienced doubles stars in a deciding-set tiebreak [10-7].

They then advanced to take on Olga Danilovic and Hsieh Su-Wei in the semis, where they emerged victorious in a match tiebreak once more.

Gauff and Kessler will play the number three seeds, Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai, in the final, who won the Washington Open together last time out.

Placing more of a focus on her singles career over recent years, Gauff hadn’t qualified for a doubles final on the WTA Tour since June 2024.

That’s not to say she isn’t an outstanding doubles player, as the American is a former Grand Slam champion in the discipline.

Earlier in the tournament, Gauff questioned why she serves better in doubles than she does in singles, having posted some seriously impressive numbers in Montreal.

Looking to win her fourth WTA 1000 title in doubles, Gauff will be determined to lift the trophy alongside Kessler on Wednesday evening.

During her career, Gauff has contested 15 doubles finals, with five different partners.

Emerging victorious in nine of those finals, Gauff established herself as one of the best doubles players in the women’s game.

Prior to the Canadian Open, Gauff had played doubles at just two tournaments in 2025, the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.

Advancing to her first doubles final of the year in Montreal, Gauff will certainly hope to pick up her tenth title, and her first alongside Kessler.

Gauff and Kessler will play Townsend and Shuai in the 2025 Canadian Open doubles final on Wednesday, August 6.
