Gateway Games: Benue athletes get national recognition.

Two athletes from Benue state have been selected for national and international competitions after their impressive performances at the ongoing 2024 Gateway Games in Ogun state.
The Director of Sports, Benue State Council, Anthony Torbunde, revealed that the Benue State football team Captain, Anum Rejoice Seember, has been selected for national trials, while tennis player Kater Kpum will represent Benue and Nigeria at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the United States.

Torbunde expressed his delight at the performance of Team Benue, saying that the athletes have exceeded his expectations.
He commended the athletes for their good behavior and sportsmanship, noting that none of them have been disqualified from the games.
Briefing newsmen on virtual chat Tuesday, Torbunde said, Team Benue has won 4 Silver and 7 Bronze medals in various events, including Darts, Kung fu, Weightlifting, Kickboxing, and Para-athletics.
He expressed hope that more medals will be won in para-athletics and golf.

Augustina Ime Linus, a kickboxer who won a Silver medal for Benue state, commended the state government for the opportunity to participate in the Gateway Games.
She appealed for a one-month camping program for athletes to enhance their performance.

She commended Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, and the Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, for their support of sports development in the state.
