Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is excited by the progress being made on the club’s new state-of-the-art training ground.

The club’s US owners spent £1.5m on upgrading three pitches at Playford Road to Premier League standards back in 2022 at a time when the team was in League One.

In September 2023, chairman Mark Ashton revealed a ‘multi-million pound total rebuild’ of the Blues’ training base was in the works.

Designs were revealed in March last year, with work starting this summer ahead of a planned opening ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

“There’s loads going on (at the training ground) – it’s exciting to see,” McKenna told TownTV.

“The club have done a great job of boxing it off – the work that’s going on is behind some pretty big walls.

“But from the training pitch you can see and hear the cranes every day.

I think we’re going to be able to see the building as it goes up and above the walls.

“There’s a little bit of disruption, but it’s really exciting. We know it’s going to be a fantastic facility.

It’s a great thing for every single department of the football club. We’re looking forward to it being finished.
