Promise David, who opted to play for Canada instead of the Super Eagles, made history tonight, when he came off the bench to score twice for Union St.Gilloise to be crowned champions of Belgium since 1935.

Union needed to win tonight to be champions as defending champions Club Brugge were also behind in the Championship Playoffs and a slip by Union would have let in their closest rivals today.

Union won 3-1 against visitors Gent, while Club Brugge were held to a 1-1 draw by Antwerp.

Former Nigeria U23 international Promise David thus finished the season with 24 goals across all competitions.

The striker, who was signed from Estonia, netted eight goals in 10 Championship Playoff games.
