The Golden State Warriors season is over after a 4-1 series elimination at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

An inability to win without Stephen Curry saw the Golden State Warriors drop all four games after the superstar got injured.

Jimmy Butler could not produce his past postseason heroics, much to the joy of watching Miami Heat fans.

Steve Kerr called out Brandin Podziemski over his playoff performances, and there were very few Warriors players who emerged from the series with credit.

One who did was Jonathan Kuminga, a player who entered the playoffs out of favor.

Charles Oakley says Jonathan Kuminga needs to leave

Jonathan Kuminga ended up playing a bigger role in the series with the Timberwolves due to a re-shaped lineup after Stephen Curry was injured.

During the series Kuminga averaged 20.8 points per game, an increase on the 6.0 points per game during the series with the Rockets, where he was not given the opportunity.

Steve Kerr’s inconsistent usage of Kuminga is an issue some have taken issue with. Kendrick Perkins this week urged him to leave.

Now this stance has been backed by NBA legend Charles Oakley, who argues Kuminga needs to move to a different franchise, throwing out the name of the Washington Wizards.

Oakley told Nightcap: “My thing with Steph, you gotta be special, you gotta be willing to break your game down like Draymond. I mean, Draymond is perfect for him.

“Kuminga, he’s a guy, athletic, he gets to the rim. He need the ball 20 times game.

So trade him to Washington. Get a player back to play with Steph for the next two or three years.”

The Warriors famously traded Jordan Poole to the Wizards in 2023, after his bust-up with Draymond Green.

Charles Oakley praises Jonathan Kuminga attitude

Oakley paid tribute to the way Kuminga responded to the setbacks he had when he was DNP in high profile games at the end of the season and the start of the playoffs.

He said: “You holding this kid back. This kid, really if that was some guys they would have broke down. He kept his head.

“He been balling in the playoffs, even though they didn’t win, it ain’t his fault, because the effort, the points, and for him just being strong to go on the court.

“Steve Kerr needs to get over this thing too. Get your lineup. You know what you got, it’s playoff, all these 10 different lineups and this and that, mismatch.”

Going back to his initial point about Kuminga needing to adapt his game to play alongside Curry, Oakley points out that this is simply not possible for some players.

“These young guys, they want the ball. They want to feel special. And it’s hard to break some habits.”
