The 129th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association boys track and field championships and the 54th girls track and field championships get underway June 6 at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The meet features two sessions on the first day. The Division 2 and Division 3 session begins at 9:30 a.m. The Division 1 session begins at 4:30 p.m.

Day 1 is over at the WIAA state track and field championships

That’s a wrap from the first day of the WIAA state track and field championships in La Crosse. The meet will resume June 7, when all events will be finals.

Action will get underway with field events starting at 9:30 a.m. and running events will start at 10 a.m.

Kimberly thrower captures Division 1 boys shot put title

Hunter Sprangers of Kimberly won the Division 1 boys shot put state title with a toss of 61-3.5.

Sprangers, a senior, had his best throw on his third attempt.

Anschutz repeats as D1 girls state champion in 3,200

Ella Anschutz of Muskego repeated as the D1 girls state champion in the 3,200.

Anschutz, a junior, won with a time of 10:33.91. Her winning time last season was 10:35.26.

Schroeder repeats as D1 girls pole vault state champion

Arrowhead junior Elise Schroeder repeated as state champion in the Division 1 girls pole vault.

Schroeder, a junior, had a best height of 12-6 to win the title. She also had a 12-6 last season in her victory.

Waukesha West sophomore wins D1 boys long jump state title

Cole Zielinski of Waukesha West won the boys long jump title in Division 1.

Zielinski, a sophomore, had a jump of 24-5 to win the title. It came on his second attempt.

Homestead’s Tally breaks D1 state record in 800

Homestead’s Jay Tally set the Division 1 state record in winning the boys 800-meter run.

Tally, a junior, finished with a time of 1:51.21. The previous record was 1:51.48 by Eric Brown II of Wisconsin Lutheran in 2013.

Neenah sophomore wins Division 1 girls triple jump state title

Neenah sophomore Celia Gentile won the Division 1 girls triple jump state title with a jump of 40-2.5.

Gentile got her longest jump on her final attempt.

Kral repeats as D1 state champion in girls discus throw

Thea Kral of Ashwaubenon repeated as Division 1 state champion in the girls discus throw.

Kral, a senior, had a toss of 156-8 on her first attempt and it held up for her to win.

Dykstra wins Division 1 boys high jump state title

Aiden Dykstra of Germantown won the Division 1 boys high jump state title with a leap of 6-9.

Dykstra, a junior, started at 6-0 and did not miss a jump through 6-9. He made three attempts at 6-10.

De Pere’s Lenn smashes state record in 1,600

Grady Lenn of De Pere set the state record in winning the boys 1,600-meter run in Division 1.

Lenn, a junior, finished with a time of 4:01.79.

Homestead girls win 3,200 relay for the third year in a row

The first champion has been crowned in the Division 1 state meet.

For the third year in a row, the Homestead girls are champions in the 3,200-meter relay. The team of Sierra Gill, Alex Gaskin, Mara Gaskin and Charlotte Lueck finished in 9:05.02 to win gold.

West De Pere’s Nehls wins boys wheelchair shot put gold medal

Daniel Nehls of West De Pere won the boys shot put wheelchair gold medal with a toss of 23-2.

Nehls, a junior, had his best throw on his third of six attempts.

Start of the Division 1 session pushed back 30 minutes

The Division 1 session for the state track and field championships has been pushed back 30 minutes due to delays in the first session.

Division 1 warm-ups will begin at 4 p.m. Gates will open at 4:15 p.m. for spectators, opening ceremonies will be at 4:50 p.m. and competition will start at 5 p.m.

MAS’s Jackson finishes second in Division 2 long jump

Amare Jackson of Milwaukee Academy of Science, the defending state champion, took second place in the boys long jump in Division 2.

Blake Thiry of Prairie du Chien won the event with a jump of 23-6.75.

USM’s Grenier runs to state championship in 3,200

Bella Grenier of University School of Milwaukee won the state championship in the 3,200 in Division 2.

Grenier, a senior, finished with a time of 10:35.18.

Marathon thrower sets Division 3 state record in winning shot put

Marathon junior Chris Marcell won the Division 3 shot put with a toss of 61-0, which is a D3 state meet record.

Marcell is also favored to win the discus throw.

He unleashed a throw of 220-8 at the Stratford Regional, which at the time was No. 2 in the nation this season.

Notre Dame’s Hunt runs to gold in 800

Notre Dame’s Joseph Hunt won the boys 800-meter run in Division 2.

Hunt, a senior, finished with a time of 1:53.60.

Division 1 competition scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

Just a few events remain in the first session of the day for Division 2 and Division 3 athletes at the state track meet.

Division 1 will be the second session. Warm-ups for D1 athletes are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 4:20 p.m. and competition beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Pius XI Catholic pole vaulter takes third in D2

Mya Gencuski of Pius XI Catholic finished third in the girls pole vault in Division 2.

Gencuski, a junior, had a best height of 11-9.

KML’s Lauer finishes third in triple jump

Kettle Moraine Lutheran’s Hayden Lauer picked up a third-place finish in the girls triple jump in Division 2.

Lauer, a sophomore, had a best jump of 37-1.5 on her final attempt.

New Berlin West duo ties in Division 2 high jump

New Berlin West’s Trevor Berwanger and Zachary Hewitt tied for third in the Division 2 high jump.

Berwanger, a senior, and Hewitt, a sophomore, both jumped 6-6

James Flanigan repeats as Division 2 shot put champion

James Flanigan of Notre Dame has won the state shot put title in Division 2.

Flanigan, a senior who will play football in college at the University of Notre Dame, threw 59-7 on his fourth attempt to secure the title. Wyatt Graffin of Columbus finished second with a toss of 58-2.5.

Whitewater’s Hefty wins 1,600 state title for the third time

Jack Hefty of Whitewater won the Division 2 title in the boys 1,600 for the third year in a row.

He finished in 4:13.78. Joseph Hunt was second in 4:15.74 and Owen Lencki of Waupaca was third in 4:17.07.

Taylor Karcz of Crandon won the boys 1,600 in Division 3 with a time of 4:15.78. Jamison Velzke of Cedar Grove-Belgium was second in 4:18.09.

Marquette’s Quintero wins third state title in 800-meter wheelchair

The Milwaukee area has its first champion.

Gianni Quintero of Marquette University has won the boys 800-meter wheelchair event with a time of 2:02.40. Jack Barbeau of Waupaca was second in 2:24.28.

Kohler relay team claims first gold medal of the WIAA state track and field meet

Kohler’s girls 3,200-meter relay team has won the first gold medal of the 2025 state track and field meet.

The Blue Bombers team of Lillian Pociask, Sophia Kwacz, Ella Loest and Maggie Behler finished in 9 minutes, 34.31 seconds for the victory in Division 3. Cochrane-Fountain City was second in 9:42.51.

Cloudy and cool in La Crosse for the start of the WIAA state track meet

The rain has ended in La Crosse but it is cloudy and cool as the WIAA state track and field championships are underway.

The first event of the day and the first medals will be awarded in the 3,200-meter relay in Division 3.
